He sighed balling his hands into tight fists for a moment. It wasn't that
he didn't want to help Amber, in fact just the opposite. However, he didn't
think dropping Kristin and Philip right into the middle of it, with no
knowledge of what they might be facing would help. But if that's what they
wanted fine they could just go, but he wasn't going to be the one to send
them off to die.
Yes, the occupation they were in was inherently dangerous. He knew that and
accepted it. He knew that any one of them could be gone in the blink of an
eye. However, going into a situation with such little knowledge, and what
knowledge they did have suggesting nothing could be accomplished inside the
house at the moment? No, that was not covering your bases or watching your
back. What it was, was going into gun fight unarmed. How would they
protect themselves? True they were certainly more experienced than Amber,
but from what Derek had heard it was a relatively minor thing that resulted
in her injuries. This of course meant that Jane or whatever was there was
likely much more dangerous when seriously angered.
This whole damn thing baffled him. Not once had he flat out said NO to
them. All he wanted to do was check things out. Talk to Jane, he had
perfectly logical reasons for her that wouldn't be suspect at all. If he
could speak to her, perhaps he could get a grasp of any difference, or even
if very lucky some glimpse of what was really going on. It wouldn't take
long either to talk with the New York house and see if they noticed
anything. They had much more direct contact with Jane and the Boston House,
being only a few hours apart. Derek shook his head irritably. Perhaps he
could call someone in New York and enlist their help to keep an eye on
things from a distance of course. Yes...that might be the thing to do if
they were all going to be so stubborn.
