Rachel was just applying some antibiotic paste and bandages to Nick's
hands. "He has some burns, nothing to serious. He'll be fine." She then
looked at Bryce and the soulchaser, "Help me get him up," she asked.

The Photographer and the Guardian of Damned souls exchanged a look and
walked over. They each grabbed one of Nick's arms and hoisted him up to
a standing position. "If you dont mind me saying," Bryce said with a
touch of dry humor in his voice. "This has been just about the most
terrifying thing I have ever witnessed."

With Nick in an upright position, Soulchaser walked back over to Julia.
Kneeling down a bit so he could look into her eyes, he saw all the fear
and desperation that she was hiding from the Being. He knew that,
separated from Derek, she was now in a state of weakness, more
vulnerable to the Demon's powers of illusion and trickery.

"I cannot leave you as you are," Soulchaser said. "You understand this.
My sacred duty is my first priority so I must stay at your side."

"However," he began as he removed the leather glove from his left hand.
"I may be able to find him without leaving you." By now, Julia should
have well known that the bond she shared with Derek went beyond most
human relationships. The two were connected in a way that neither of
them would ever consciously understand. If he could tap into that link,
then perhaps he could find a clue as to the location of Derek.

"Touch my hand," Soulchaser instructed her.
