Hi Ben and Joern, It's not our intention to suggest that everyone is happy and able to move to version 3, which is why we're still maintaining both 1.x and 2.x.
On the other hand, webcomponents.org does make it hard to find older versions of the elements, and that's confusing. There are basically separate versions of the page for npm and bower versions of the same element. If you find an element via search, and it has an npm version, you'll end up on the page for the npm version: https://www.webcomponents.org/element/@polymer/iron-icon Click "View Bower Docs" in the left nav to see the bower versions: https://www.webcomponents.org/element/PolymerElements/iron-icon?bower Finally, click on the + side on the top of the left column (next to "and installed with bower") to show the actual install command.
