When I read this I thought "Hot diggety" or words to that effect and
followed the carefully detailed directions, rebooting just to make sure.
When I tried it on a 'mailto@somewhere' on a web site, Messenger came up
instead of The Bat. <grrr> It certainly would have been 'nifty', if it had
worked.
However, spurred on by the suggestion that a settings change in the e-mail
client itself might work, I had another look through Calypso, my main
e-mail application and sure enough, buried in an overlooked corner was a
setting to make it the default e-mail programme. If you're a Netscape user,
a tray monitor is employed but now those onsite 'mailto@somewhere' links
bring up Calypso with its many accounts.
Now I'm tempted to add another account just to use for the above
situations. Perhaps not, though. It could be a straight shot to a very
cranky old age. (Too many e-mails beginning with "Now see here, sonny, this
website is a very poor design . . .") ;>)
Thanks for your help, Alan. It was a nudge in the right direction for me.
Hope JM gets his Bat "automated".
