I tested a bit further and found that shortcuts on the desktop (including quicklaunch bar) do NOT have the context menu, shortcuts in some other folders DO. So I was able to test what you suggested and it worked the way you said. But there has to be a way to do it... Windows knows how to delete shortcuts.
