I like to add one more reason of my assumption here.
I bet you already noticed a large margin before/after the text
when it was centered vertically as a single line, and a threshold
width (seems 120 in your case) which is the minimum width required
to center the text vertically. The extra large margin when the width
is set to its threshold value is what I'm talking about here as
the would-be white spaces ...
