Hi David, I'm answering off the top of my head, so I'll be missing the kind of details that you probably want as an answer, but do bear with me.
version 6.53 - don't settle for less. plugins: that's the forte of TC. don't miss them. eye-candy issue: plain true, although you can make it look a lot better. The ghisler forum - forum.ghisler.ch I think - has a thread on screenshots, take a look. BTW, you can easily change the bold type in the configuration>options>font menu - that's the first thing I did, and change the font too 'cause the default sans serif dates back to win95 times and looks old by comparison with xp. calculate dir size: there's a good content plugin for that, I think it's called dirsize. "content" is one of 4 types of plugins for TC: content (columns), file system, lister (viewers), packer (compress). With dirsize you can do manual/auto fore/background calculate. Recommended. Thread on ghisler forum. Site: I like ghisler for discussion and totalcommander.ru (in english) for downloads - the latter is probably misnamed but I can't think of the right name right now. advanced usage: lots to discover. Post to the ghisler forum when you think you'd like to do something and don't know how. Don't expect much in terms of eye-candy, go for the meat. One thing I recently discovered is the ability of searching and coloring file names based on content plugins. Given the amount of content plugins available (multimedia, file properties, file comments, image properties, and many more) I think you could put it to really good use). why I like it: small (plugins are usually very small), doesn't use the registry (carry on usb), solid, powerful (more than xplorer2 or dopus IMHO *IF* you use plugins), gets the job done - complex jobs I mean. Like powerpro, it takes a while to explore TC and learn it. Give yourself enough time. Attention: PowerPro's Web site has moved: http://www.ppro.org Yahoo!
