Getting the extra heat out insures (OK, almost insures) your ability
to overclock. Lack of extra cooling doesnt prevent you from
overclocking though. It really depends on the individual CPUs. I
had a Centris 650 with a 25 MHz 68040 that overclocked to 38 MHz for
a long time (until I added a PPC card) with only the standard
heatsink.
You can improve on Apples heatsinks with usually no problem. I plan
on overclocking a 500 module soon, and I wil lexperiment on making a
better heatsink.
