7.6.1 WILL run without a PPC...the last 68K OS version is 8.1,(which I
have running on my 540C)

Sorry, my bad...the 7.5.5 is the 7.5.5 _update_ and is available from:

http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/System_7.5.5_Update/

You need to have installed 7.5.3 first.

7.5.3 is at:

http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/Older_System/System_7.5_Version_7.5.3/

And any and all enablers are at:

http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/Older_System/System_Enablers/

But I _think_ the last System rev to need enablers was 7.3 ish or so.

It's in the custom install options. All the default choices typically
remain enabled if you select this, so it's a good way of seeing what is
being installed.

That SCSI cable is definitely a worthwhile investment.
