Chris,
Mundane should not be the problem, and you description is fine for this
problem, but you will have to add a little information. Do you have Palm
Desktop (s/w also know as Contact or Up to Date ??), HotSync, or any fax
application on your Mac?
Several of theses use some sort of Serial Port Monitor. They are looking for
outside communications. You will have to turn them off to free up the port.
