I, too, have had unusual difficulties in getting a Global
Village combination modem/ethernet card to work. The
main symptom was that I could never get it to appear in
Appletalk as Alternate Ethernet. I tried all kinds of
software installs; it was also a 28.8 card, which I flash
upgraded to 33k. This was back when there was still some
support for these, and I ended up sending it back to GV.
They replaced it with a different, equivalent hardware
card, presumably a known good refurbished card, to no
avail.

I eventually gave up on it, but not before looking up the
pin out of ethernet and verifying that each and every
active ethernet pin was connected to a unique dongle
connector pin - I don't think that my dongle was bad. No
shorts. So.... I was left to conclude that it was some
weird software incompatibility. I'm running OS8.1 on a
PB1400/G3 for what it's worth.

The solution for me was to buy a separate ethernet PCMCIA
card. By the way upgradestuff used to a carry a PCMCIA,
non-CardBus 10/100 ethernet card, but they're gone now.
Anybody know how to contact Dave Manning?

If someone has a GV combo card working on 1400 running
8.1, I'd sure like to correspond with you to find out
what control panel versions etc you have got running.

Thanks,

Kurt
