Others have pointed out using an external scsi CD ROM player with an adapter.
That's what I did with my 5300cs - except the CD player is in my Mac 
IIvx that was just gathering dust.
It's a somewhat bulky setup, but it works just fine, and adds another 
available hard drive as well.
Any Mac with a scsi connection and a CD player should work.
