This is incorrect--not everything decoded on a PC will become unreadable on a mac--but worse, it inexplicably assumes that the very specific suggestion it is responding to was made from a standpoint of ignorance. One of the reasons HFV Explorer exists is that it keeps the data and resource forks intact and allows a PC to transfer mac files and volumes. Further, the suggestion to use a self-expanding archive ignores the fact that to transfer an .sea file from a PC the person would need to leave the data/resource forks intact--using HFV Explorer or TransMac, of course!
Getting Expander onto a Mac that doesn't already have a version is a strange catch-22. The Internet Explorer suggested by Scott Holder will work, but only if you've got that--if not, you'll need Expander, right? Another way is to run a mac emulator on the PC. THis is complicated but can be convenient for various tasks. The best emulator is called Basilisk II. There are many tutorials on the web. You'll need a 68K Rom to set it up. As for transferring files larger than a floppy, you can use a ZIP utility to break the file up (usu. called disk spanning), and reconstitute it on the mac. There are free utilities for Windows to do this, e.g. Zip Central. For the mac, there's shareware--ZipIt works, and I believe StuffIt Deluxe will do the same. I've spanned files with Zip Central and reconstituted them w/ZipIt successfully. THis doesn't help you with Expander, unless you set up the emulator, spanned the decompressed Expander folder with ZipIt, and then recombined them on the PowerBook also using ZipIt. You leave the file as is on the PC. Put it > straight to a floppy. Take that PC floppy to the Mac. The Mac will ask you > what program you want to use to decode it. there will be a list.
