ValueFAX, shareware, $15 to get the "valuefax" header off if you care. I use GlobalFAX on my desktop, since I had it bundled with a GV modem originally, I like it too.
...Supervoice... This is good info for modem and cable modem users. Thanks for the valuable feedback everyone! Now what about those "lucky" cable users who are connected ONLY by Ethernet cable through an ISP Black Box, and have no internal modem? There seems to be NO software solution for sending a fax without a dialup connection/phone line connection. I know of a service that allows you to email them, and they then turn around and "fax" your email to your intended. Seems a little Fred Flintstone to me. Also it's only for OS X so far, which leaves me and other stubborn OS 9 anachronists out anyway. Has no-one dreamed up a solution to address what must surely be a common situation? I have to go fire up my SE/30 to fax someone, using clunky old GV software. Mostly I try to get away with email, it's fast and cheap and reliable (and Resource-Friendly). Now and then some Computer-Illiterate client can't open a WORD doc attachment, and demands that I fax it instead. What a pain. I'm not going to lose too much sleep over this (!) My guess is that fax might be obsolete in a few years, and all our cherished means of communication evolving almost faster than we can keep up, so that all this stuff might be replaced, with a whole NEW pile of stuff, lol. That's progress, right? Thanks again for the intelligent and useful responses :-) -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
