Hey All,

Well I'm new to this list. I usually hang out over on the Supermac side of
the Valley. Hoping for a few good ideas here.

Anyway, today I picked up a Powerbook 5300 cs at a G sale. Came with 16
Focus Vid Card, Ext CD Rom w/ adapter, and V. 34 modem. Don't know yet what
hardware its got inside. Think it has OS 8.1. Aesthetically in excellent
shape. Paid only $50 So, not out much.

Down side: Grey screen. Get Start-Up Chime but that's it. Having cd/rom
hooked up doesn't help. I'm assuming its got a loose cable or two. Was
informed by prior owner that he dropped it, no visible damage. He also said
with some juggling, he does get start-up. I haven't had same luck. Might
have a loose internal power cable too, as power does seem to get lost
sometimes when power plug is moved around. Haven't tried hooking up to
regular sized monitor yet either.

I guess I need to open it up but you could say I'm new to laptops. I'm
wondering if there are some wiring diagrams, step-by-steps, and other visual
aids some of you could point me to. I read a somewhat recent post about a
similar gray screen and lifting the keyboard to check the monitor cable but
didn't see how to achieve this. Don't want to break anything ya know.

I appreciate any help. I'd like to get this thing working for personal use.
Never been able to afford a new one so I remain on the trailing edge.

Thanks,

        Dave
