Thanks for the information.

I hadn't considered that a different brand of card would make a difference.  CompUSA 
had 128 MB SanDisk (a pretty reliable brand) CF cards for $39.95 after rebate, so I 
bought one.  I guess I can use it in my digital camera if it won't work as a boot 
disk.  I might check at newegg.com and see what deals they are running on CF cards.

As for extensions, I get the same Bus Error with extensions on or off.  I've even 
pared down the extensions folder to just a few, but stil get the error - and all Apple 
extensions, no 3rd party stuff.  No extension shows as loading prior to the Bus Error, 
but I guess I could Symbionts (sp?) to see if something is loading prior to the Bus 
Error.
