Hi, in my 5300 I have a 10baseT PCMCIA Ethernet adapter that I suspect to be
wearing down. It is a Dayna CommuniCard Plus that has been in continuous
use for about nine hours a day for more than five years. It has always
worked flawlessly until a few days ago. Now, my network connection will
disappear at random several times a day.

When this happens, the lights on the dongle will flash on and off and there
will be three or four very audible "pops" from the 5300's speaker (even
though the volume is turned off). Sometimes the connection is restored
within a few seconds, but sometimes not. This happens both at work and at
home (broadband LAN). No other computers are affected.

My question is: Is there _any_ possibility that these particular symptoms
could result from a software problem (OS 8.6) instead of the card? If not,
I am reluctantly ready to drop $50 on a new Macsense 16-bit 10/100 card to
replace it.

Thanks for any ideas.
- Josh
