I can second this. I've used inverters on many different laptops and will most likely purchase one for my 540c if I can't find an affordable adapter on E-Bay.
The biggest issue is what the laptop has as far as hardware. If you've got a CD of any type involved then don't get an inverter less than 200W. The laser and the constant spin-up/down of the CD draw a lot more power than just a standalone 'book. I recommend 350W in those cases when people ask me.
