The 45 watt rating for the powerbook is *after* the PB adapter. Allow 15% for the inefficiency of the adapter, the power draw in the 110 volt stage should be 52 watts, which is still plenty below the rating of the inverter. If you start running a printer or other 110 V plugpack accessories at the same time, keep an eye on the total. If the appliance itself doesn't have a watts marking, Watts = Volts x Amps (/ efficiency of plugpack, assume 85%). And remember that most plugpacks will draw that power when they are plugged in, even if the appliance is not switched on.
Still you've got plenty there for just the laptop, and probably a printer. The easy way to watch out for overloads is to feel how warm it's getting Clae. >------------------------------ > >Message-Id: <l03130313b91bc6133af4@DialupEudora> >In-Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Date: Thu, 30 May 2002 05:06:58 -0700 >From: Paul Nelson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: Re: pb car adapter > >At 8:03 AM -0400 5/30/02, chamaras wrote: > > > >yea the inverter outputs 75 watts but on the powerpack 4 my book it doesnt > >say how many watts it needs specifacaly so i took a chance and tried it 1 > >day for 5 hours i had it plugged into the inverter with no ill effect... > > That's more than sufficient, as even the G3's only need 45 watts. >Paul > > > >------------------------------ -- David Clae Gason Secretary, Melbourne Wireless mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://wireless.org.au i hate anarchists. i think there should be a law against them -tahl -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
