Ok, I got the 3400. It only has 8.0 installed, so the first thing I will attempt is the 8.1 update. There's the standard manual but no SW. Luckily, the OS 8 install guide I managed to get does say how to handle a PowerBook OS8 install. There's lots of extra HW. Many thanks to all who helped out, Cheers George
