The difference in price between a 540 and a 520 makes buying the 520 and
upgrading uneconomical after you figure in your time, effots and buying
and shipping the parts.

Moreover, for the cost of buying a 540c and upgrading it to a PPC, you
can get a 5300c. I've seen them go for as low as $125-$150. NO way
you're going to buy a 540 and a PPC upgrade for same for that much, let
alone getting the Rev C pcmcia module to bring it up to feature parity
with the 5300 (especially if you get one of the $19 Focus LapisColor
MV16-EN upgrades for it from http://www.datamem.com look in the
Clearance section...that gives you 16-bit color out, and an ethernet
port, which is all the 5300 lacks compared to a 540c.)
