The active matrix display in the 540c is so much better than the conventional display in the 520c I can't think of any good reason not to go for the 540c. >> ... I've never been big on using apple's take-apart instructions anyway. I got an exploded view from Donny Monk, bought myself a Torx 8 and 10, and just wung it from there and it always seems to work! (at least on the 1xx series for that matter). >> The PB5xx series is easily the easiest PB to work on. And easily the cheapest to maintain and upgrade. For almost all repair actions, the only tool you will need is a T-8 driver. To replace the floppy (that is, to remove the floppy drive proper from its carrier) you will also need a T-6. Two fine blade-type drivers are also helpful in unlatching the six latches which retain the display cable/microphone cover ... easily the most often damaged part during any repairs. You do these latches two at a time, for best results and minimum damage. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
