I am back, yet again. (mailbox overflowed last time...) Still working on the 3400: Got it networked with the 6300 via ethernet crossover cable and offloaded all important data, installed 20 gig drive (amazingly skinny!), fixed broken clicker (I think), reassembled.
Now it won't boot to the OS 8 CD (flashing question mark). I also tried the System 7.5.3 CDs, just for fun, I knew they shouldn't work (7.6 minimum). Interestingly it boots just fine from the Norton System Works CD with a nice slim version of OS 9.1! Looks really cool, but strangely, NO hard drive setup software on the Norton CD! Any Ideas? I have no floppy drive or SCSI cable for it. I tried the included networking from System Works with both ethernet and modem port, nothing (says 'a strange network error has occured, are you sure it is connected properly?'). Of course, I can't eject the CD as it is the boot drive, so what can I do?!? My only option at this point seems to be to mount the 2.5 hard drive in the 6300 with an adapter and set it up with a minimum system install to get it going.
