If you have certain features on your phone line including voice mail 
they may alter the dial tone to indicate status.  Only the original 
dial tone seems to satisfy the modem's dial tone detection.  Having 
it "Ignore Dial Tone" will solve that problem.  It will however also 
let the system attempt to dial while the line is in use.
