Sounds like a very frustrating problem. Are there any other computers hooked into the same phone line when you hook in your powerbook? When I was housesitting at a friend's house, I had to go downstairs and unplug the phone line out of her computer before I could use the same phone line upstairs with my Duo. I never figured out "why" I had to do that, but it would not work unless I did.
