Just about any newer drive than the 750MB you're replacing has different mounting holes. The 1400 has an aluminum bracket that holds the hard drive, and you have to drill two new holes in the bracket. It's easy if you take the time to carefully mark where they go on the bracket, and probably easier if you have a small (.125") round file to perhaps slot the holes. If the mounting screw doesn't go all the way into the drive, the keyboard won't sit down properly and then the speaker cover won't slide in.
I was a little off on one hole the first time I drilled mine out. -- JSH > Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: Tue, 24 Sep 2002 16:59:49 -0500 > From: Jonathon Schmidt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: PB 1400 hard drive installation > > Hello group, > > First off, I'm relatively new to the group, so I just wanted to say > thanks to all of you for generously sharing your PowerBook wisdom.
