It sounds more like there is a SCSI termination issue or an ID 
conflict. The 'floppy icon' means it can't find a system. SCSI disk 
mode bounces a SCSI icon with number inside around the screen. The fact 
that the CD ROM is detected but can't mount media is also a clue. I had 
similar problems awhile ago, I can't remember how I solved them.
