Tom and all else who replied thanks.  I solved it as
follows.  Tom...you want this fix....better than a 2nd
partition:

Apple screwed up on the 9.1 start up disk control
panel.  Upgrade to 9.2.1, which is NOT what is
installed with system 9.2.  It is a seperate beast.
