Oh, excuse me. I didn't realize you were replying to the line >as we've never been able to get our machines, both 1400cs, to communicate
In that case, maybe I can give you (Aly) some tips and see if what you do and what I do are the same. Set AppleTalk to "Infrared Port (IRTalk)" on both machines. - of course, make sure AppleTalk is active Point the books at each other, about 3 feet apart, so that their infrared windows are directly across from and pointed at each other. (If you only want to transfer files, do the following: Launch "Apple IR File Exchange" on both of your 'books. It should be in the Apple Extras folder The opposite book's name should appear in each book's IR Sender window. Drag and drop files to the icon for the other book to transfer them.) Turn on File Sharing on whichever machine you want to access remotely/wirelessly (or both, if you want to do it both ways) - Note that unless you log in as the owner of that computer, you will have to define a shared folder or volume... Open the Chooser. Using "AppleShare," click on the name of the book you want to access. Type in your user name/password as applicable, select the shared volume, and hit "Ok." Navigate to the remote files. Ta da, you are done. Easy-peasy.
