Yup. Partially supported as of version 1.4 (NetBSD is currently at v1.6).
And NetBSD is a MUCH nicer OS than Linux, I might add.

Have done so for ages. Alas, not on the PB170. According to the
Machine-status document,
<http://www.macbsd.com/macbsd/macbsd-docs/machine-status/>, the on-board
video of the PB170 is not supported, so serial-console operation only. :-(

The only fully supported PowerBook is the 550C. (Swapping the 68LC040 for a
full 68040 results in a fully supported 520, 520C, 540 or 540C. I have done
this on a 540C and it works like a charm.)
