The power supply board actually fits under the trackpad and palmrest. It's got those little metal prongs you can see in the battery bay...
It's easy to install - it's got it's own little socket on the motherboard into which it plugs. You needn't worry about soldering anything, all you will need is your handy torx screw driver. Question: Does your board come with a new PRAM battery? The battery is attached to the board via a small 3 wire twisted cable and tiny white plug. If you have to move your old battery to the new board, beware of pulling too hard on the cable. The plug is delicate and the wires can easily be pulled right out of the connector if you aren't careful. You should also be careful to not bend the pins for the battery bay. I pushed one in on a spare module I had on hand, breaking it off at the bend... :-( Definitely handle the board delicately, and as with all electronic components, don't subject it to electrostatic shock! As for the power socket (the one that is broken, you say), it is in an entirely different spot on the motherboard and requires removal of the logic board to service. With the service manual, it's easy enough to do. As for replacing it with a different connector type, that may be possible... but without knowing the power/voltage/polarity of the individual power adapters, I can't say for sure. At best, it would probably require some creative assembly on the motherboard and cutting of the rear of the case, as I'm pretty sure the jack for the 1400-style plug has a larger, different footprint.
