David, Yes, the AirPort installer refuses to install on anything less than a G3. (Clark Martin has said that AirPort 1.3 will install on a 5300, so that might be worth a look... The last time I tried to install AirPort on a 5300, though, it didn't work for me.) However, you can grab the juicy bits with Tome Viewer and manually "install" them on a PowerBook 2400, PowerBook 3400, or PowerBook G3 (Kanga), as has been repeated several times this week. > >it works perfectly on a 5300cs running 7.5.3. Configuring the old- >school MacTCP was a little bit of a bitch Cathy, The Orinoco cards are the Lucent cards! They are the same hardware with a different sticker on the front. That is the only difference (unless you are getting the "short antenna" version, but even then, they should have the same circuitry). Still, IMNSHO, I wouldn't waste my time with the OEM WaveLAN drivers on a machine that can run AirPort. You said you are running 7.5.3 and MacTCP on your 5300... May I ask why? System 7.5.5 is a free download from Apple.com, and so is OpenTransport. Unless you are running some really ancient software that requires MacTCP and System 7.5.3, I can't see any reason not to upgrade to 7.5.5 and at least OpenTransport 1.1.1 Believe me, you'll be happier - besides being less prone to crashing, 7.5.5 with OT is a pretty easy to setup system for using on a network. MacTCP is ancient at best, and many TCP/IP apps that have been released in the last 5 years puke on it. System 7.5.5 may be gotten at the (rather long) following location: <http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/System_7.5.5_Update/> OpenTransport 1.1.2 may be gotten at this (also rather long) location: <http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/Networking-Communications/Open_Transport/> (OT 1.1.3 and later were included with operating system releases) Peace, Drew -- <http://homepage.mac.com/alk/> "There are of course many problems connected with life, of which some of the most popular are `Why are people born?' `Why do they die?' `Why do they spend so much of the intervening time wearing digital watches?'" -- Douglas Adams' "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
