Hi Ken I've come in late here so excuse if already covered etc. If protect System Folder is checked in the General controls this might slow you down as might 'show folder sizes'. I read once that having your HD aliased in the Apple menu could slow things down - but that is probably only part of a bigger picture that I don�t recall.
