All is not necessarily what it seems:  those "new" batteries are NOS and
have been on a shelf in a warehouse someplace for a number of years, and
their chemicals might be nearly exhausted.  At least that seemed to be true
of the one I bought:  but it's now acting much more genuinely new after
having been reconditioned ($54, including shipping).  If an apparently
wornout battery comes with your prospective 3400 getting it rebuilt in the
first place would be a better investment, IMHO.
