I thank it's just that Apple has the most recognizible name in computers. And often, when the TV/movie wants to simply get across that "X is using a home computer" then Apple's logo, the most recognized in the industry, gets the message across quickly.

Certainly Apple has very high name recognition and a _very_ strong brand. Those things can't hurt. Of course, product placement also reinforces the brand... (Think Seinfeld - although he almost never used the computer on the show, whenever they were in his apartment, the Mac on his desk was in nearly every shot. He had an old all-in-one, then a Performa 630/640 type box, then the 20th Anniversary Mac, etc). If Seinfeld had a Mac, then they must be good! Even if it's a show about nothing... ;-) (Didn't they even have a couple Apple posters on the show from time to time?)

I heard one time, that part of the reason why Apple is so often seen on TV or in the movies is due to Apple monitors. I've heard it said that Apple's displays in the 90's had refresh rates and temperature/color correction that were more compatible with the frame rate of film. Notice how most PCs (even on lower budget modern shows - like on PBS) had those sickly blue or magenta screens with "scan lines" scrolling up them? It was explained to me that this didn't happen with Macs of the day. Since producers/directors/studios got used to using Macs on the set, they stuck around even after PC displays began to catch up.

Of course, I'm not an industry expert, and all this could be completely off the wall...

Peace,
Drew
