Does any lister know whether there is a conflict between Os 8.6 and I.E 5.1.6? I can't launch I.E under O.S 8.6. The launch process is never completed. The computer freezes, making a strange buzzing sound.
If it's just with browsers (and lousy ones at that) that give your HD the buzz, then I would suspect that the IE and Netscape are trying in vain to access their cache, madly emptying it to make room for your new pages, or having terminal difficulties with Flash. Try increasing the cache and make a habit of emptying/deleting it after each long surf session.
IE will no longer be supported by Microsoft. I would suggest you use iCab anyway. You can set iCab's prefs to delete the cache and the history files upon closing and their browser for PPC Macs is quite nice.
