Hi

I'd like to know if it is possible to exchange files between two
computers - one running OS X 10.2.6 and the other Mac OS 7.5.3. The
Simple. Turn on personal File Sharing in the system Preferences. The
7.5.3 system can access shared directories via the chooser, (you may
have to update appleshare), via the Server IP address. It will show in
your browsable list of hosts.
For the OS X box to see the 7.5 system you need Shareway IP Personal
<http://www.opendoor.com/shareway/> (Or to upgrade to OS 9, because
Apple's solution for personal File Sharing in OS 9 was actually a
bundled version of Shareway IP personal...) Then folders and volumes
marked as shared are accessible on your 7.5 system as permitted in the
Users and Groups control panel.

Here is what I did to make it work. First I had to turn AppleTalk ON on the TiBook. Then the 7.5.3 could see the TiBook but for some reason could not authenticate on it - it gave me a "connection to server was unexpectedly quit" (or something very similar). Ok, that was a no-go. I turned Sharing ON on the 7.5.3 box and went to the TiBook which could see the 7.5.3 system with no additional software. I can log to the server by clicking it which reveals this connect string: "afp:/at/7100%2f80:*" The old box name is, as you can see, (7100/80). It works like a charm and is quite fast (considering an aaui transciever is in between).

Upgrading the AppleShare client software on the 7.5.3 box will probably fix this in ability to maintain log in to the OS X box. I don't recall the version but it should be available from Apple.
