Greetings, colleagues. I have a PowerBook Duo symptom/problem; need diagnosis!
I'm prepping a Duo 280 (greyscale) for a swap. As long as I've had it, it has exhibited zero screen problems. It came to me w/ a patched up version of Sys 7.5 on it, and the soon-to-be-new owner requested 7.6. Installation (including disk - reinitializing) went flawlessly; the unit responded well and boots up fine and peppy and full of spunk - BUT...
suddenly (as in, the very first time I booted up in Sys 7.6 by the HD and not CD or floppy), the screen is showing curled blacking out in all 4 of the corners - looks like a piece of paper w/ cinged or charred corners from a fire that was put out (the center of the screen is still sharp and clear).
What is this? Is there an anomoly of sorts w/ this unit and Sys 7.6? Has the screen crossed over and begun it's journey into the great beyond? (Does it happen that quickly, to go from a great screen to the "charred corners" look?)
Sounds like the classic "dark corners" syndrome for Duo 280 screens. The theory is that there is water or oxygen leaking into the screen near the corners, which prevents the pixels from relaxing into the ground state (off). I dont know why it would appear suddenly, but thats what the problem sounds like. If so, there is no known cure.
