Thanks, for the advice.  I got to that step after alot of fumbling around, trying to 
remember all the thyings I've forgotten about this type of thing.  It's back on OS 8.1 
now, and running without any problems whatsoever.
When I installed OS 9, I watched it, and did see the installer updating the drivers, 
so that shouldn't have been the problem.  I also did use HDSC before going back to OS 
8, and it didn't seem to make the difference.  Oh well, alls well that ends well,
