IMHO, partitioning with a bunch of different OSes is a pain in the butt. This is what I would do:

- Boot to the OS 9.1 CD. Perform a clean install of the OS.
- Your OS 8.1 system will be deactivated and renamed to Previous System. Don't delete it!
- Set everything up and use it with OS 9.1 for a while.
- If OS 9.1 breaks (which it won't), boot back to the CD. Trash the OS 9.1 system folder and rename the Previous System Folder back to System Folder. You may need to take the finder out of the folder and drop it back in to re-bless it. This will restore your system back to 8.1.
- You may need to update some apps to work with 9.1.

Course you won't need to do any of this, cause 9.1 won't give you any problems.

Would appreciate advice on whether to install 9.1 on a second partition and leave 8.1 as is. I'm concerned that some of my older applications may not like 9.1, but on the other hand, I've heard it's not good to have two operating systems on the same Mac.

Any do's or don't regarding installing 9.1?

Thanks,
Spence
