I recently picked up a few 3400's with problems. I bought them from someone I know who used them until a few years ago when they were replaced by newer laptops. None boot at this time but that will change. In taking one apart I've discovered corrosion in two strange places. The IF card and window had to be tossed out due so much corrosion that they became stuck to each other. The bay was corroded too. The bay where the CDROM/Floppy drive activity lights sits was also corroded but there was not sign of corrosion on the light or wiring. What I find strange is no signs of corrosion on the PRAM battery, although it's dead, and no corrosion on the logic board or any other components. As a matter of fact, everything looks so clean and like-new that I suspected a prior rebuild. I've contacted the former owner who says neither laptop ever required service. They were stored with the battery in the bay. Has anyone seen this corrosion problem before? Does anyone have a spare IR board and window willing to part with? Chuck
