The corrosion in the CDROM activity light area was white powder. The corrosion in the 
IR
board and lens area was
almost entirely rust color. The corrosion climbed the IR board and got into the 
shielded
circuitry. It was so bad I had to
toss the IR board. The lens, of course, was easily washed. I also found corrosion 
under the
metal lining in the IR area
of the bottom case.
If the corrosion is spill related then I guess water was spilled over the keyboard and
entered the two area's. It had to
be water as there is no stickiness or discoloration such as from tea or coffee. I've 
cleaned
up those area's with a
baking soda solution and thoroughly dried with compressed air. I hope no further 
corrosion
occurs.
I've got one of the two 3400's up and running. It's a 3400/240!!  I think the 
corrosion one
is a 3400/200. It's going to
take a while to find parts before I know if it will work.
