Mine does the same thing. A maxed-out 3400 takes a long time to check RAM before it starts to boot. The 3400, from what I can tell, is sort of legendary for its slowness to boot. If it's plugged into an outlet, it's almost best to just put it to sleep instead of shutting down. The first time I booted it, I was worried because it took so long to boot up. Then I read a few things and learned it's just slow on the draw. I've heard that Kanga isn't so bad about this because the G3 parses the RAM faster than the 603ev in the 3400s.
