Here's a question: your 3400c is configured just like
mine. When you hit the StartUp button how long in
seconds does it take before the screen lights up after
the StartUp bong chimes ???

Mine takes from 15 to 19 seconds. Is this normal ??

Mine does the same thing. A maxed-out 3400 takes a long time to check RAM
before it starts to boot. The 3400, from what I can tell, is sort of
legendary for its slowness to boot. If it's plugged into an outlet, it's
almost best to just put it to sleep instead of shutting down.

The first time I booted it, I was worried because it took so long to boot
up. Then I read a few things and learned it's just slow on the draw. I've
heard that Kanga isn't so bad about this because the G3 parses the RAM
faster than the 603ev in the 3400s.

You can turn off the RAM check at startup to speed things up.....My SE/30 with 68MB takes a minute to check the RAM. Open the Memory control panel while holding down the command and option keys and you'll then see the option to turn off the startup check.
