Anybody have any ideas of the pros and cons of using a MicroDrive with an older powerbook 1400?
I was wondering about power consumption and if there were any known incompatibilities?
You mean like the Hitachi (ex-IBM) Compact flash microdrives?
I'd expect none whatsoever. Put it in a pcmcia carrier card and it's a straight pcmcia device. The power consumption *is* going to be a bit higher than flash cards, but not a lot, they're designed to be low power devices, after all.
I have a chance to buy a 1 Gig MD cheap and I was considering using it as my start-up/main drive and only using the internal HD as back-up. My system folder and commonly used software only amount to about 500 Meg so this would be feasible from that standpoint. I just wonder how they compare in energy use to a large HD.
