I have seen 5300s without the exteral video port. Rare. >If you have a 5300 you MUST go to >that nexcomp.com website that was posted a few days ago! Batteries for >$24.95 (unbelievable- I bought two). They list a Focus Enhancements 16-bit >Video Card for the 5300- is the one I have (if it was the one Apple >installed as an option) a 16 bit card as well? Any help would be >appreciated. The Lapis is a good choice for installation where an external video port is not present, or even replacement of an existing Apple external video port. The Apple port is the same across 190 and 5300s. The Lapis port is unique for 190s and 5300s. For 5300s, the ones which are being liquidated most of the time, it is the Lapis MV16EN, which offers 16 bit color and UTP Ethernet in one component. The softare install is a little bizarre, but the card works well. The only drawback is its large "dongle". Batteries for 190s/5300s have consistently been available brand-new for in the $20.95 area for some time now. I think I bought six off if eBay. Lapis MV16ENs (5300s only) have consistently been avaiable brand-new for in the $9.95 area for some time now. I bought four, one for each of my color 5300s. My "road Apples" (I usually take two) are a 5300c and a 5300ce, each with a Lapis card, and each with a USR/Megahertz 56K PCMCIA card (with X-Jack). One set of cables are shared between the two. Oh, I have a 5300 docking station, but I haven't modified it to incorporate the Lapis "dongle" in the place of its normal Apple external video adapter cable. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
