I was toying with an idea of installing 8.1 on a CF ram and using that to boot my 5300. That way I could use the HD for data storage only. How large of a card would I need to get and how would I go about doing the software to the card.
I think this would speed up my system because I would have fewer disk I/O and not be limited in the OS by my disk speed and transfer rate.
Will this work?
Thanks,
John
You'll need at least a 64 MB CF card to do this, IIRC, but a 128 MB would be better - especially if you want to use the card for VM plus as a boot disk. A 32 MB card might hold a minimum install.
A few months ago, I *thought* I had this fixed on my 5300cs by jockeying around the order of PC Card-related extension loading, but now I still get a Bus Error when starting up with the CF card installed at boot -- whether or not I am trying to use the CF card as a boot disk.
Sigh. I hope you have more luck. Please let us know if it works.
