The 5300 is a different beast-
Well, only sort of. The 5300 and 1400 are very similar in a lot of capacities - in fact, the have the exact same PC Card controller. What works on the 1400 should work on the 5300 in this respect.
I know Bob and I have emailed about this :) but I have no solution other than check that PC Exchange is set up right, startup disk ponts to the CF before ou reboot, and maybe zap the PRAM.
FYI, Apple says that before some PC Card modules (ATA flash cards, CF adapted cards, etc) are bootable, you have to write the driver to the "disk." You can re-write a Mac OS disk driver to the CF card by using Drive Setup.
To be bootable, the disk has to have a driver. I guess sometimes a standard formatting doesn't apply this driver to PC card flash memory. I dunno why that is...
