*Tip*
Godwin <[EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>> says, "If the acid battery dies, one can bypass it and convert the Portable into a luggable. One needs 2 AC adapters -- the original one and a 9V DC adapter. Take out the 9V DC battery and replace it with a 9V 1A power adapter. Then remove the battery /and/ cover (there is a switch at the battery cover which we need to disable). Plug the two adapters in and /viola!/ one of the sleekest Macs on anyone's desktop!"
*Caution*
* Battery becomes unusable if discharged below 5.4V; keep it charged!

I've got a non-backlit Mac Portable that worked as recently as 3 months ago. It has a new battery that I built (PowerSonic battery) which shows 5.35V and the 9V is good at 8.5V.
Unforntuanely it just won't start, nothing, no noise at all. Last time I used it the machine was working flawlessly, I had even used it to do some work thanks to the SCSI->Ethernet adapter I had gotten for it...
Any suggestions on how to revive my 17lb beauty?
--------- If you find an answer, I would like to hear it! I have two with the same problem.

actually I let it charge a few more hours (voltage got up to 6V) and voila it booted again! But i got a flashing ? mark so I need to make some new 6.0.8 boot floppies and see if the hd is still working, it spun up but old disks do die... maybe it's time to find that portable to normal disk adapter again...
