I had a PB 145, my friend has a PB 180. A totally discharged battery can prevent the system from starting. Try booting without the battery. If it works without battery, try leaving the PB plugged in overnight with the battery installed. This may put enough charge in the battery to allow it to boot. If you don't mind being stationary, the sliding part of the battery can be slid off and put on the powerbook. Saves weight and looks great! Also try the Power Manager as mentioned before.
